My Music This Month

This month has been a reasonably quiet month for me with new music. 2011 on a whole has been fairly quiet to be truthful. However, I have heard some great stuff from towards the end of last year and others. My favourite being The Naked And Famous. They have really caught my imagination and their stuff is great! Other bands which I have really enjoyed recently have been The Gaslight Anthem, The New Pornographers, The Boxer Rebellion and Frightened Rabbit. All very good listening indeed.

The Naked And Famous – Passive Me, Aggressive You: This album is extremely different from anything I usually listen, probably why I enjoy it so much, but it reminds me of MGMT. The songs ‘Young Blood‘, ‘Girls Like You‘ and ‘All Of This‘ have been on my iPod non stop and I recommend you get this album because it is certainly worth the money!

The New Pornographers – Together: This was a Christmas present from my father actually! And it has been very enjoyable, also a bit different from anything I normally listen to so a welcome change for me. Really liking ‘Moves‘, ‘Silver Jenny Dollar‘ and ‘Up In The Dark‘. Give it a listen, you won’t regret it.

The Gaslight Anthem – American Slang: This album has had a lot of success with the critics but I must confess it did take me a while to get into it. But when I did start enjoying, oh boy, this stuff is amazing. If you like raw rock and roll then this is for you. Their last album (The ’59 Sound) isn’t bad either. There are so many songs on this that I could recommend but if you’re going to listen to one then give ‘The Diamond Church Street Choir‘ a listen, it’ll rock your world.

Also worth a mention this month are Beady Eye, Iron and Wine, Adele, The Joy Formidable, Wolf Gang and Bright Eyes. All relatively well known but still check them out if you need some good music.
All is well here in Atlanta so hope it is wherever you are, enjoy the blog.

Me, Myself and Music

Hello lovers, I have decided to start a blog on the music I listen to and love. You may not know this but I have a huge passion for music whether it be mellow, relaxing music or music which must only be listened to while on your feet. I listen to just about everything. I am no music critic just a lad with a bit too much spare time so hopefully whoever reads this can relate to the music and hopefully enjoy what I am blabbering on about. Feel free to comment and tell me anything you recommend or what you think about what I’m saying.

For starters I’ll let you know five albums and five tracks which you must listen too, these are not necessarily my favourite but I feel you have to hear them and give them a chance:
  • Arcade Fire – Funeral, If you have not heard this album your life is just not complete. This is not music, it is art. Soothing, emotional ‘Haiti‘ is my pick from the album but every other track is an equal.
  • Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, this is an epic British rock ‘n’ roll album and one of the best in the last 5 years most definitely. The raw, psychedelic rock is mind-blowing and definitely worth more than one listen. Fave track ‘Where Did All The Love Go?‘.
  • Jamie T – Kings And Queens, this is such an awesome album with the funky beats, rapping and catchy chorus’ this album just makes me want to chill with a book one minute then the next get out and run through town naked. I love ‘Earth, Wind & Fire‘ such a crazy tune.
  • The XX – XX, one of my albums of this year and definitely in my top 10 of all time. This is a definite grower. After one listen you will not be liking this but after the 5th this will be non-stop on your headphones. There’s nothing else like it, the use of the bass is just breath-taking. Look out for ‘VCR‘.
  • Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, from the moment ‘Lisztomania‘ begins you’re hooked, and then it just keeps on giving. Feel good album, one which will be on your summer roadtrip playlist for many Summers ahead. Lose yourself listening to ‘Lasso‘.
And if that isn’t enough for you to listen to then checkout these tracks which you probably know but listen to them again please because they are unbelievable:
Hopefully that’s enough for your ear drums to handle over the next couple of days, let me know what you think. Enjoy.

Peace out.
